Washington painter Marcia Coppel
paints light-filled, balanced
paintings filled with a surprising
range of beautiful color. She paints
people in outdoor cafes, parks, and
the beach. Friends talk over coffee,
gesticulate or occasionally sit alone
and enjoy their surroundings. They
may have purple or blue faces and
expressions that are happy,
startled, bewildered, or vague but
the effect is whimsical, easy going.
Stories are suggested but are left
to the imagination of the viewer.
The paintings , inspired by Mexico,
reflect a fanciful paradise.
